Some important facts to consider when picking out barcode labels.
Barcodes are designed to increase the speed and accuracy of data entry, as the manual data entry process is often too slow and error prone. Therefore, accuracy and readability are two vital aspects of using barcodes.

Surface
Smooth, rough, dirty, curved.

Label Shelf Life
i.e. fixed asset label must last the life of the asset, box label for shipping would be used once.

Environment
Extreme heat, cold, wet, dry, chemical, minimal or maximum handling.

Size
Stock size or custom.

Adhesive
Permanent, removable (leaving no visible residue), removable (leaving behind residue, evidence indicating label was removed).

Quantity
Number of labels needed per transaction type.

Barcode Scanner
Due to different light absorbing characteristics, the right label must be chosen based on barcode scanner being used.
